China's photovoltaic (PV) industry has gone through many cycles, from following suit to taking the lead, and has become a veritable “China business card”. Technological progress is the key factor driving the PV industry forward. Among the many technical routes, heterojunction technology has formed differentiated advantages with its excellent surface passivation effect, low temperature coefficient, high double-sided rate and excellent low irradiation response.
Chairman Liu Shuji said that Tongwei is a pioneer in the research and development of heterojunction technology. It has been actively laying out heterojunction technology research and development since 2018. The core technologies of Tongwei, such as double-sided microcrystalline, copper interconnect, and 0BB technology, are the three major “tools” to promote the heterogeneous junction technology to reduce costs and increase efficiency, and realize large-scale mass production. At the end of October this year, the highest output power of Tongwei's heterojunction modules reached 776.2 watts, and the efficiency of the modules reached 24.99%, which is the ninth time to set a new record.
Dr. Xing Guoqiang, Chief Technology Officer of PV of TONGWEI, hosted the meeting. During the meeting, Dr. Xing Guoqiang had an in-depth discussion with the guests on topics such as heterojunction module testing, wafer size, and market outlook. Regarding the future development of heterojunction, Dr. Xing Guoqiang especially pointed out that the technological upgrading space of heterojunction determines its future development potential, and promoting the progress of heterojunction industry requires the joint efforts of the industry to create a better industry ecology.
During the conference, Mr. Liu Shuqi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TÜV Rheinland, had an in-depth discussion with the guests on heterojunction technology and the current market situation. When talking about how to utilize the role and value of heterojunction, Li Weichun, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland's Global Power Electronics Service, said that innovation is the source of development, and that heterojunction technological innovation can be used to enhance the advantages from the three aspects of cost reduction, efficiency, and quality improvement.

Mr. Zhang Zhongwei, Chief Scientist and Director of New Energy Research Institute of Guosheng Technology, expressed his hope to contribute more to the progress of heterojunction technology and increase the market share of heterojunction together with all of you here.
Dr. Gao Qi, TÜV Rheinland Greater China's technical expert for solar and commercial products, shared “TÜV Rheinland Heterojunction (HJT) Photovoltaic Module Electrical Performance Measurement Data Analysis and Test Process R&D Progress”. Heterojunction technology needs to demonstrate its advancement in terms of performance and reliability in order to gain market acceptance and expand its share. At this stage, the comprehensive performance parameters of heterojunction in the market are affected by different processes, equipment, and production procedures, etc., and the efficiency and performance of HJT modules from leading module manufacturers are significantly better than the market average. In the future, we hope to strengthen cooperation with various organizations in HJT measurement, testing and related standards.
Dr. Xing pointed out that cost reduction in heterojunction technology is important, but perhaps efficiency improvement is more important. If efficiency is not improved, the differentiation advantage of heterojunction technology will no longer be significant. Dr. Jiang Fangdan, Director of PV Research Institute of PV Technology Center of Tongwei Company, believes that it would be more reasonable to explain the substability of heterojunction technology in terms of working state.
Xu Xin, Senior Vice President of Anhui Huasheng New Energy Technology, said that although the advantages of heterojunction technology in the large version, especially in including ground power plants are very significant, but also need to improve the competitiveness of the small version to fight for this part of the market. According to Zong Jun, CEO of Guodian New Energy, it is hoped that all units will cooperate to improve the reliability test and other standards of heterojunction modules, so as to enhance the competitiveness of module products.
In the exchange discussion on the topic of “Heterojunction Outdoor Empirical Data”, Xu Xin, Vice President of Huasheng, said that whether in high temperature or relatively low temperature areas, heterojunction components have good outdoor performance in terms of power generation, attenuation rate, double sided rate, low light response, and so on, and so heterojunction products have a high degree of acceptance in overseas.
Lei Xinyue, president of QuanWei Technology, said that heterojunction is now emerging as a separate segment in the domestic large-scale project bidding and procurement. Heterojunction products in the outdoor, agriculture, marine and other fields also have more achievements, which makes heterojunction in the application of PV module selection advantages more prominent.
Xia Zhengyue, Minister of PV Technology Center of Tongwei Company, and Dr. Long Wei, Minister of PV Technology Center of Tongwei Company, attended this roundtable. At the meeting, Dr. Long Wei gave a speech on “Heterogeneous Junction Cell Production Unit Consumption Benchmarking”, which provided ideas for technological improvement of the production line by benchmarking the key indexes, water consumption and other production data of some enterprises.
